Google announced this week that they’re now hosting around 10 million photos from the LIFE magazine’s photo archives on Google Image search. You can search the photos—which range from the 1750s to present day.
My roomates from college were featured in a LIFE photograph in 1964 at the New York World’s Fair, so I did a quick search and found the photo in the new archives. The picture was taken in front of the world population clock, and there was some irony since they were a family of 14 kids. Those are my friends Peter and Paul second and third from the right. They’re twins and age-wise, fall right in the middle of the 14. (you can click on the picture to see it full size)

This is actually from the FAO Schwarz toy company’s web site, but its sort of fun. You get to build your own Muppet online by picking its color, nose, hair, costume, eyes, mouth, etc. And then, if you really like it, you can order it for $90. I read one blogger who calculated that there are almost 80,000 combinations available. I’ll take his word for it. Here’s the link

I didn’t say that, the LA Times did. My friend Sam, a Gator fan, sent me the link.
Never mind the BCS: Florida is No. 1
Chris Dufresne , LA Times
The best team in the country right now is not Alabama, Texas Tech, Texas or Oklahoma.
It isn’t Utah (Utes don’t deserve it), USC (didn’t cover spread versus Stanford), Boise State (trailed Idaho, 7-0) or David Letterman’s mighty Ball State (can’t consider schools that play on Tuesdays).
The way they looked Friday night against Detroit, it’s not even the Lakers.
The best team — not last August, not last month, maybe not the day after tomorrow, but this minute — is Florida.
Florida did something Saturday that’s never been done at the Swamp: It humiliated Steve Spurrier.

Set in Aurora, Illinois, this 1992 movie was the highest-grossing film ever based on a Saturday Night Live skit. In addtion to the lead actors, the film also saw appearances by Chris Farley in his first film role, as well as folks like Rob Lowe, Lara Flynn Boyle, Robert Patrick (spoofing his role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Ed O’Neill, Meat Loaf, and Alice Cooper.

This is kind of funny, so let’s make a game of it. It’s an actual advertisement from a magazine. Can you spot what’s wrong? It took me a few minutes, but once you see it, it really jumps out.

Here’s the link it came from

A buddy of mine is developing the ultimate tailgate accessory. He calls it the EX TAILG8R. The top folds out for plenty of counter space and it’s designed to hold all of your tailgating needs like coolers, grills, food, etc. It even has built-in fittings for the grill, spirit flags and umbrellas.
The picture is of his prototype and yeah, he’s a big Gator Fan, so that’s why it’s trimmed in orange and blue. But it will be available in a variety of school colors. They’ll be available soon, so if you’re interested, call the number on the side.

This gave me a start when I saw it on someone else s blog. At first I thought they were bugs crawling on my screen. Good thing I didn’t swat them.
Turns out they’re buzzards.

This week’s film is an iconic classic from 1942 and generally regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. Its plot centers on the lead character’s conflict between his love for a woman and doing the right thing by helping her husband escape from from the now-famous locale to continue his fight against the Nazis.
Its interesting that while the film was considered an “A-list” production, no one involved with its production expected it to be anything out of the ordinary. It was rushed into the theaters and ended up winning three Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Occasionally I find a picture that I just HAVE to post. This is one of them.
There’s a story behind it. The riders, apparently all men, were returning from a three-day Sunni Muslim festival in the ancient city of Multan, or the City of Saints in Pakistan. I pity the conductor.
